The Developers
Making waves since the 1960's
Buchner Properties have been developing property since the late 1960’s. The company’s flagship development, Lonehill, in Sandton, pioneered the concept of a self-contained residential suburb with its own shopping centre, Residential 1 and 2 developments, school, sporting and lifestyle facilities, and world-class town-planning principles.
This formula has since been emulated by the likes of Fourways Gardens and Dainfern in Johannesburg and Fountains Estate is based on a similar concept, with additional commercial and industrial property components.
With the commencement of the Fountains Estate project in 2005, the development company Buchner Property Investments Garden Route was established with two equal shareholders, Oswald Buchner and Dries du Preez - the former being the visionary and chairman, and the latter being the managing director.
The key components of Fountains Estate are: Fountains Mall, Fountains Business Park, Fountains Industrial Park, Fountains Lifestyle Village and Savuti Wildlife Residential Estate
Fountains Mall
The growth-driver for Fountains Business Park
Jeffreys Bay has over the years consistently been one of the fastest growing towns in South Africa and this provided justification for the development of a new regional business and retail node, strategically located to cater for Jeffreys Bay, St Francis Bay, Humansdorp, Hankey and Patensie.
Fragmented retail nodes and tremendous traffic congestion during holiday season also demanded a better planned one-stop shopping destination and Fountains Mall now caters for the bulk of shopping requirements, previously only available in Port Elizabeth.
JSE-listed Property Funds have stated that dominant regional malls are the biggest contributors to growth in their portfolios and case studies have supported this statement, as has been demonstrated by the phenomenal growth seen around malls in coastal towns such as Ballito, Umhlanga, George and Somerset West.
Fountains Mall has proved to be a similar growth node and numerous businesses have relocated to the area around the mall since its opening.

The value of the Fountains Business Park’s location is that it is strategically located where the bulk of region’s traffic occurs as a result of the shopping mall and that it is built on modern infrastructure.
